Tinman
In my travels through space, cyberspace that is, I found some interesting information that tells the fate of the Rocky Jones Silvercup Rocket, although I think I remember reading about the existance of several. Below are some pics of the rocket in it's heyday and a few links which tells of it's discovery and shows it's current condition, relatively speaking. Lets just say she's not space-worthey anymore! http://www.solarguard.com/silvercuprk01.htmhttp://silvercup0.tripod.com/Below is one of my Rocky Jones pinbacks found on my last trip to Adamstown. Originals were lithographed tin:
Andyman
I confused this one with the Ralston rocket. Upon my research I found that there were quite a few traveling rockets back in the 50s.http://www.solarguard.com/terra5pln.htm

Tinplate6
Well, some good new from the Solar Guard website..."SILVERCUP ROCKETFINDS A NEW HOMEI'm happy to report to all of the Cadets that The Rocky Jones Silvercup Bread Rocket is now at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo here in Michigan. I am very excited about the prospect of having the old girl restored by a group of world-class experts, including yours truly. They are even going so far as to restore an International Harvester Truck (hopefully the same model that pulled the Rocket in the first place) to be used with the display and taking the Rocket on tours of schools. Just think about it, after all these years it will be going on tours again, WOW! "Here's some shots of the Ralston Rocket, then and when...And yet another roving rocket the Luer Meat Rocket... The Toyman
Fabulous story, thanks for sharing. The pictures of the original more than justify a restoration but what will the cost be? :o Looking at the truck I was sure I've got the same truck in the collection...here it is but as a car transporter, it's one of the first trucks I bought on Ebay about 5 years ago. Please keep us all informed on the restoration!Noel

The Toyman
Tinman!... we just got back from the beach, the kettle is on for tea, my wife is sorting stuff out, my daughter is getting ready for school in the morning, and where am I?, I'm in the toyroom immersed in the world of "Rocky Jones" space ranger! I've just gone to the kitchen to get my tea and I'm back in front of the screen going through the article you posted, fascinating and very informative, thanks ever so much for posting it, I'm looking forward to further reports on the "Silvercup Rocket"
Tinman
Sounds like a great way to spend the tail-end of a day! Remember to check out the Rocky Jones episodes on YouTube, their kind of corny but I'll bet they were pretty fun back in the day. All of these shows: Rocky Jones, Captain Video, Space Patrol, and Tom Corbett, etc. were a bit before my time, but I imagine I would have been watching if I were born 10-13 years earlier. ANZinSpace
Space patrol RocketFurther to the old rockets travelling around the country. I was searching on a new website of the National Library of Australia and it threw up an entry for USC which included links to the Space Patrol cast and Rocket at some promotional show or other. So I thought I'd post them here for those interested. http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~6 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~5 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~8 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~7 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~2 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~1 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~4 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~3 http://digarc.usc.edu/assetserver/controller/view/EXM-N-9204-017~9Here's an one I prepared earlier  The NLA site is http://trove.nla.gov.au.I also found an Australian promotional rocket mentioned in the Sun Herald from November 1954 (The gun the boy is holding is apparently a "cyclotronic disintegrator ray")The article also mentions some toys as well - Super-sonic Aqua jet, Space Cadet Atom ray, Space Pilot supersonic gunDamn I wish I had sixpence and a time machine because I'd be there. dratomic
Sorry to drag this off topic a bit, but the rifle held in the photo, above, is the Tommy Ray Gun, made by B&W Moulded Plastics. The helmet the kid is wearing is the Tommy Helmet -- the two were sometimes sold as a set. The gun looks to be a different color than what's usually found. It's available in red and blue, but the one in the photo looks too light to be either... Can't say for certain, though. The 1954 date is nice, too. I don't think this one is in the timeline yet...Back to the topic at hand!
Tinman
I knew you'd pipe in about the gun Doc, the front sight and overall shape gives it away.
