Here's a book written by C.B. Colby entitled Plastic Magic - The Material Of A Million Uses published by Coward-McCann, Inc.

Page 12 has a photo of a Space Control clicker gun used to illustrate Polystyrene.

The Contents page also includes a list of the Photo and Art Credits where the Space Control pictured is credited to the Pyro Plastics Corp. and the book's copyright date is given as 1959.

Photos to follow shortly.

Great find, Joe. Pyro Plastics was an early innovator of injection molded plastic production (according the obituary published a couple years ago on the guy who started the company).

The gun itself is pretty common (as opposed to other Pyro Plastics guns...) and the manufacturer has long been documented (it's stamped -- very tiny -- on the gun itself). I'm not sure if we already had a date...

All in all, I think it's a great reference to the toy, though. :)

Update: the advert in the database photo puts the date back to at least October 1952. Foreign copies were circulating in 1953.
