Project#4 Done

LLR110 a utility bot was on board a transport headed to a new assignment at a Nubian Ionic propulsion lab. The shuttle was hit by a nutronian burst and suffered total power failure. The shuttle crashed on an arid satellite of Nubia. The ELT was destroyed passing through the volatile ,charged atmosphere. The two crew members survived but are incapacitated. "L" has stabilized the crew and provided them with comfortable shelter. "L" has set out in this Forbidden landscape to find a com port . The Planetoid is used by smugglers and bootleggers. "L" soon discovers this is a dangerous place. It has it's share of reptilian predators and "L" was manufactured without offensive or defensive systems. However "L" can learn and adapt to a changing enviroment . So when he comes across a Cache of smugglers weapons , he decides on the venerable Browning KLR-1100 Kinetic Laser rifle. It is well known for it's reliable and hard hitting operation. "L" sits down to recharge his power pack and read the manual of the weapon that may save him and the crew. This is all new to him. The Rifle was designed by my friend Bob Hoffman.

This is a prototype of what I hope will be a full size model. Also welcome to the new Metal shaper ans Sci-Fi artist. Chaz.

Holy Cow! Mark, that's just beautiful! You have an amazing ability to translate illustrations into three dimensional forms. Truly a unique skill that few people can claim ownership of. Just fantastic! ;)

Smokin' cool there, Mark! And you made the story your own. I really like the rifle too.

Only thing that bothers me is the position of the legs. They're not as dynamic as the picture.

Andy,,,,thats because this guy isn't as relaxed as the yellow pages bot. Instead of looking for an escort service, he is ready for fight or flight.

Oh yeah and the articulated knee coils opened up too far at that extreme angle of the leg. ;) There wasn't anything to do to refine that,,,short of back cutting the coils. I'll take another look at it . But it's pretty much set in stone. {Literally} There is a 3/8" hole drilled all the way down through that rock to mount the bot and run all the wiring down to the battery box. You should have seen the look on Teonia's face when she came down to the shop and I'm standing in a puddle of water with a big Dewalt drill,,,, Steam coming up out of the hole. :P Do you have any idea how long it took to just form the shoulder and hip joints ? 4 hrs during the Super Bowl. I was watching reruns of Star Trek ! :P The legs may be an optical illusion, but I'll have a look when I get home tonight. If your correct ,then I have to risk destroying the bot attempting a repair.

WOW! That's amazing. I mean, really amazing. I love seeing these covers come to life.

And that rifle... Stunning. I want one. :)

You know, Mark, most science fiction conventions have art shows/sales, and sculptures drawn from famous magazine covers would probably do REALLY well. Something to keep in mind if you're ever looking to go that route. I know I'd be tempted to buy something!

Great job. Congrats on another excellent piece.

(BTW, you should definitely bring some stuff to botstock to put on display in the special exhibits section of Joe's museum!)

Mark,,,,,,,Pure genius,,,,,,,You've really raised your game now,,I think with the detailing and accuracy to the picture you've gone into another league.I know you like/love thinking big,but I actually prefer them this scale,,at a later date I would love to be able to commision something on the lines of this one from you,,,Now I've just got to hunt through all the sci-fi covers to find the next robot you can bring to life....... :)

I've just looked at him again,,,,and I've got to say one more time,,,,,,PURE GENIUS!!!

Listen guys, I appreciate the kudos but I saw the stuff on display at Joe's last year. There is no place there for my concoctions . Joe doesn't have the room. He was packed last year. I will try to bring the items with me though. Dang I wish there was a place indoors for us to meet. Kind of like a round table . I better think about backing off for awhile until I figure out what to do with it all.
