As the saying goes:"Imitation is the height of flattery".

So I decided to honour John Riggs by imitating one of his Winky-conversions.

Here is a picture of the original JR conversion,-still one of the best you ever done John!

I hate robots with appendixes (=remote controls) so I decided to go the way of the

"Mechanical brain" i. e. Wind-up but with a battery for the lights.

- a decision I lived to regret. A remote is SOOOOOOoooo much easier, than cramming

everything inside, so that, with hindsight, I might have opted for the remote.

However this is what it became: The meter says"Count down to wink"and when

the needle is on zero, the left eye goes out. Needle swings back and both eyes are on.

The brake-lever that switches the wind-up motor, also switches the power to the eyes.

There is only ONE, that you see three is due to the wonders of PhotoShop.

The main reason I wanted to make this robotconversion, apart from the love I felt for the JR version,

was to make themed box for it.

And here it is : the boxtop.

I considered "Winky, the randy robot" etc but settled for a more implied approach.

I will post these pictures to Brian and hopefully he will be willing to

convert these "Dutch miniatures" to good Anglo-Saxon images.

How nice to get my mind off my regrets about my incredible laziness on the auction. I love your box approach but could you get rid of that awful Winky lettering? It's the dopiest lettering ever put on a robot box. I love the battery in the head. If it took you three weeks to do it, it was still worth it. Are you going to make a batch of these for us, or are you keeping this one for your select Euro-pals too. By the way, that little red astronaut still has your name on it, even though it's obviously worth ten times as it was day before yesterday.

Nice, Henk. Though the photoshopped image makes it seem as if first the left eye lights, then the right eye lights, and then... the battery launches out of his head.

Which would be a pretty neat trick, if you could pull it off.

Love the box, too. Great job.

then the right eye lights, and then... the battery launches out of his head.

...and that would be the "Polaris-Harakiri"- robot. I'll try, one day.

I left the Robette, Winky, the landscape and the Lettering on different layers,

keeping in the back of my mind that it would, in a more serious guise,

make a good alternative to the gruesome box Planet has given to their repro's.

David, yes no peanuts..! One of the bidders was "Howdy". So maybe his eternal

pal/adversary was the other. The last stages of the bidding on the red astro

was between telephone bidders, so who knows. Asap I find some affordable

Radical-wrecks, I'll start soldering.

This Winky was meant to be a 1-off, but all the work justifies making a few more.

There is nothing in it that can not be reproduced.

Andy, The Freudian rocket stands for all the dangers casual encounters entail....(!)

Our ellysian administrator should go and rinse his mouth with soapy water!

-Though well chosen.. ;)

I am curious to know what John thinks about it. I think he might read it in about 11/2

hours. In this intervening period, he will have made 5 more conversions.

- if someone in the world makes me feel inadequate....

I love the battery in the head as I am not a big fan or wire remote units either, but they do make life easyer. The box art work is wonderfull as always. Good job Henk.

the box is great. - creating box art seems to be easy for you. or the GOSS ART is easy for you.
