Nick Danger
Just thought I'd show off my Christmas present to myself. I've been looking for a box for the XZ-31 for some time, but I'm thrilled to acquire its sister.
Nick Danger
Two points: First, the Alphadrome description of this gun is a bit misleading. It reads, "The box is the same [as the XZ-31], except that it carries the XZ-35 wording." It's true that the graphics are the same, but I believe it's significantly smaller. While I don't have a box for the XZ-31 for comparison, I do have the gun itself, and it can't fit in this box. Second, I suspect the box for the XZ-35 is more rare than the XZ-31 box. Can anyone corroborate that? If nothing else, I think they made a lot more of the XZ-31. https://alphadrome.net/data/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pid=4346#top_display_media

Nick Danger
Thank you for the kind words, gentlemen. The artwork of the box delivers all the warm, fuzzy, sci-fi vibes for me. Anyone have any thoughts on my two points? I realize there are a lot fewer raygun collectors than robot collectors, but I know there are a few Alphadromers who are really into Buck Rogers. Phil R
Ok, I've look your XZ-35 box and the photo of the XZ-31 I have. I don't have either box. I my opinion the XZ-35 box looks smaller if you compare box edge graphics on both on folds, meaning they may have used the same size graphics but scored and folded the box smaller. However, I know the XZ-31 gun is 9-1/2" while the Wilma gun is 7-5/8". However the Wilma gun extends1/2" further on the grip than the back of the top of the gun. The XZ-31 is the same on grip and top vertically. By you saying The XZ-31 does not fit in the XZ-35 box I don't know what you mean, by how much. If you measure them diagonally , the difference is the same diagonally and horizontally. There is also a ring on the XZ-31 grip not on the XZ-35. The best way to check both would be to measure both boxes, draw that rectangle on a piece of paper and see how the guns fit in each box. Perhaps we may have found something new as the written information now indicates it's the same size box with the copy change from XZ-31 to XZ-
Nick Danger
Ask, and you shall receive, Phil! The dimensions of the box are 7.75 x 5.5 x 1.75 inches. As you can see by the tracing, the XZ-35 fits snuggly. The XZ-31 doesn't have a prayer. I noticed the difference in the graphics as well. I think you're right; they printed the graphics at the same ratio for both boxes but used less of the graphic for the XZ-35. Regarding the grip rings; my XZ-35 DOES have a ring, just like the XZ-31. Having said that, I've seen plenty of XZ-35s without it (I even own one). I don't know whether it was produced both ways or they had a tendency to snap off.
