Odd Looking Super Sonic Gun by Merit

As seen in this 1955 Hamleys catalog. The catalog itself appears to be undated, but its mailing envelope is postmarked "19 OCT 1955":

There appears to be an additional collar on the light lens, making the gun look extra long.

The whole front bulbous piece looks a liitle different from my Super Sonic. Perhaps this is another early "artist rendering".

 

The catalog with it's mailing envelope has it's own appeal. Not that I would start to collectthis type of thing but I understand why it would be considered desirable.
