NovoRobo
Hi.Does anybody have any information about how the mechanism works inside the Yonezawa space explorer that makes it walk? That 'rocking'action.Any photos would be very helpful.I have an elderly retired friend who has worked on old toys for years and has opened it up but he cannot fathom the action that makes it walk.many thanks
robothut
When you say space explorer are you talking about the 1950's TV that runs into a robot? A picture would help make cjear the toy you are asking about, as the name space explorer was used many times.

David Kirk
John would certainly be the guy who knows how to fix it. Might be better to send it right off to him, if he's willing!
robothut
It walks using to wheels that have flat spots that gives it the wobbling effect. There is a drive shaft that comes down to the base to drive the two wheels. There are many pictures of the insides of this toy and several repair threads on it as well. if you search Alphadrome you will find them.
MetalRobotHead
These two images should provide the answer to how it moves, the one below as ringed shows how the drive gets to the cams that provide the movement. And this one shows the drive coming from above and walking cams
