The 98 XJ

This is a Jeep family..I don't know when it started..My love for the breed. Maybe it was all of those episodes of Combat, Maybe it was being born in the home of the Jeep..Butler Pa...who knows. I bought my first while still in the Air Force. A 1973 J-4000 camper Special. Rated at 2 Ton of cargo capacity. AMC 360 with a turbo 400. 8 Lug split rims ,Warn Lockout hubs and the spring rate of a concrete truck. 10 MPG and with factory saddle tanks,,100 gallons of fuel capacity. I sold it when we deployed to Saudi. No place to store it.  After that it was Cherokees, Comanche's ,CJ's, Hemi Grands ect..But the one that has hung around the longest, was a daily driver and I never tired of it's nimble handling gobs of torque and extreme reliability..the 98 XJ. You know the Cherokee XJ and the Comanche MJ was designed by Renault ...Yep of all things the French. I always figured it was their tribute and payback for our liberation of their country..Anyhow after 22 yrs it's time to let the old girl go. At 190,000 still in her prime. The 4.0 doesn't use a drop of oil and it's as much fun to drive as it was in 2000. I will miss this one. Odd enough these are in huge demand right now and climbing rapidly in value. I let mine go for a song. I wanted some young blood to get hold of it. Sure enough,,I listed it on Marketplace and it sold in 45 minutes. Going to  Family hunting grounds in WV. It will have it's own 40 acres to romp on for yrs to come. Filled with kids and dogs,,topped with canoes and inner tubes it will be grand..It's going where it belongs and the restoration of the MJ will begin. Any other GP fans out there.279898705_10102883381742156_97364248009035895_n.jpg.94ae887af6f1f8dccc70fd2d522eb555.jpg867961420_1973CamperSpecialJ-4000copy.jpg.7d968f918f2e0d43e667541edb09bec5.jpg1046682021_cookforestcanoetrip.JPG.4293aac3536234bdf66274927a661f94.JPGCherokee2JPG.jpg.e2c47602b1f830e248d94757901173b5.jpgjeeps5.jpg.100e1e9583dbcab677b2103dd4f1af6a.jpg1920607343_cabin3.jpg.b20ba8b1d23300e33b7377ed3c69aa4e.jpg

Sweet!!....I bought a 2013 Jeep Wrangler three years ago. $23,000 from a dealer.

36,000 miles....so far it's a nice vehicle.

I never owned one before in my life. It's a gas hog at 18 m.p.g. but no front end alignments every year like some automobiles for the bad roads

in the Yankee states..

I tried to buy an older Jeep, 1999 or 2000.... but it's incredible what people ask for these vehicles,....even with High mileage.

Hey, Eagle! Looks like your Jeep collection is growing. We chatted years ago when I got my '97 TJ. I think the XJ is a great ride and congrats on all those Jeeps. Your family will always have them in their blood now, to one extent or the other, that's why I bought my 4.0. Just before the kids got too old, I would load them up and head to the woods. Great memories. I don't think "it's a Jeep thing", I think it's a personal thing. If you love the outdoors, are adventurous and independent, Jeeps are for you. Great mod on the grandsons toy ride, looks awesome! I'd bet you'll probably hand one or two of yours down to them when the time comes, and I remember you saying you have the large property you all can ride on. Fun times, congrats again
