robothut Posted February 13, 2022 Author Share Posted February 13, 2022 High frequency high voltage makes the gas in the bulb light up just like a plasma globe does. I did this back in the 1980's with standard 40 and 60 watt filament lights and a small neon tube transformer set up. Its a good way to check for leaks to make sure the bulb is truly sealed. I made a couple larger Tesla coils In my teens using 12 kV neon sign transformers as power sources. Lots of fun to be had with high voltage HF electricity.
