MrRayGun
Ahoy, from the FuturePast! In getting to the photography for the rather protracted chapter on the classic Remco : Electronic Space gun and it's later siblings (Electronic Signal Ray Gun and Jupiter 4 Color Signal Gun) I noticed something for the first time. On the original Electronic Space Gun rear 'tele-video site" there are horizontal ridges segmenting the conical large end. The ridged site also appear on SOME of the later 'signal ray and Jupiter gun's (Although I'm currently not sure how to tell the difference between those two as there is no embossed name of the gun on the side, like the original, and they are exactly the same physically, unless the compass/sticker variants somehow quantifies a distinction (?)). Some other models, however, have a non ridged, smooth end to the tele-video site. However, there is no example of the original SPACE GUN with the SMOOTH SITE version. I was hoping this might finally reveal the difference between the signal ray and the Jupiter gun, so, I jumped at the chance to cross reference the various box graphics to potentially confirm the idea. However, although the art style varies between the three gun's packaging, each illustration examples the RIDGES of the original tele-video site. I was hoping perhaps the Jupiter art might display the smooth version and then we would be able to tell the difference between the the latter two iterations of this classic design. But alas, no. Anyone ever notice this or have any insight? Cheers, MRG
Fineas J. Whoopie
Have you ever seen a version where the screw heads below the rear sight that are usually cast in plastic are in fact real screw heads? Not saying I have, The plastic cast screw heads just reminds me of a disscussion I had many years ago with a friend about a toy that seemed to have a version with cast plastic screws while an earlier version had actual screws. Nice post. Thanks.
