At least the Thrust reverser halves stayed on..Each side weighs about 600 lbs each. The acoustic material departed.  The component you see the flames coming through are the Cascade vanes. The  translating cowl, blocker doors, and cascade vanes are what redirect the fan airflow for reverse thrust.  I have never seen an explosive force like this in a cowl.. The only thing inside there that can be on fire is fuel ,oil or burning fiberglass. Great camera work..How come ya never get this kind of coverage on UFO footage ?

For some reason there is a fan blade or 2 missing John,,But no evidence of non containment in the fan shroud..The shock of explosion could have dislodged them . I can't believe the person shooting the vid was so stable..At least nothing punctured the pressure vessel.  Mabe the size of this engine is pressing metallurgical boundaries . That's a 10 ft inlet.

Yep,missing one..Not going to cause a fire,,unless debris entered the compressor section and wiped it out. The fire is interesting. As soon as there is a fire warning the Red tabs would call for alarm bell silenced, throttle off, fire handle pulled and first halon bottle discharged. Fire suppression would have failed with the cowl gone. But the fuel shutoff valve would have closed in the pylon. Also, the fan is still free wheeling. Meaning the shaft to the low pressure turbine is intact.  They were a hell of a lot luckier than they thought !! Half a fan blade gone,,Must have been ingested in the core..Then look over at the wing root. Where the compressor blades ? Just missed the fuel tanks !
