RoboDerby
I feel I have gotten far enough along in this project that I might begin to share some progress relating to my goal of turning a Wal Mart Robby into a custom Uncle Simon robot as it appeared in an episode of TheTwilight Zone by the same title. With the exception of the ears and eyes, the latter of which to be designed to incorporate practical LEDs, the work of recreating the aesthetics, primarily from photos, is nearly complete. That is, on the head anyway. Regarding the head and aside from the ears and eyes, there is still a bit of CAD work left on the inside in order to accommodate printing and final assembly. In addition, once the head is complete, I will begin work on a replacement heart box as this part is inverted on the Uncle Simon in comparison to that on the original Robby. I plan to explore if there is any possibility of adding some mechanical function in the heart box as well if there is room to do so. Finally, I will have to create a new dome somehow and also find a way to replace the original sound samples with audio excepts from the Twilight Zone episode. John has explained to me how this can be done. Now I just have to do enough research so that I can understand what the heck he is talking about. Of course John, this is due to my lack of knowledge and experience rather than any fault of yours. I’ll figure it out. Anyway, here are some screen shots of my CAD design so far along with some Photos of the original for comparison.

robothut
Here are pictures of the full scale head I built and a picture I got from Bill Malone years ago. Its a picture taken when Bill was restoring the Uncle Simon head. Bill had told me that the original paint had an effect on some of the plastic parts and the head had 1 mechanical effect in that the 2 eye lights would move back and forth when the head was turned. There is also the full scale Uncle Simon head that lights and talks that I built in the Hut. Can not wait to see how your project turns out RoboDerby. Not trying to distract from your project thread, just adding image information. Some place there must be a picture of the 1/5 scale mod I did as well . top shelf this link. http://www.robothut.robotnut.com/rhbp4.html

The extra info and photos are appreciated for sure. And yes, I plan to have movement in the eyes which may be as simple as mounting the eyes, not to the head, but somewhere inside the body. This way the eyes will stay fixed while the head turns back and forth. Also, I will likely not print the spiraling ear, but rather I will use metal wire.
