Thanks, John. This was the video I needed. It's like a magic trick, easy when you know the secret but a real head scratcher if you don't.

 

The effect only happens when the outer and inner masks correspond. I used stained glass paints on plastic sheet for the effect, I'd like to be able to print a more accurate black and colored screen, but had to settle for thin black plastic. I've almost finished and will post a picture tomorrow.

That is a cool effect. Great job, these things aren't easy, takes research...Effort looks like it was worth it!

No, Stan, it's not to scale, it's 11 inches tall, which is, I believe, slightly smaller than the original. Every extra inch adds ages to the print times.

Brian, this looks amazing! I am in awe of your ability to turn out these amazing robots, one after the other. I am curious as to how you got the chrome effect on the ears...it looks really chromey!

Chrome spray paint. You can get an even better finish using a chrome pen.
