space.trucks
Cheers Phil; Was thinking of which ones to print and get busy on. Am quarantined with the parents while the virus plays out & there's little to do but paint and rake the yard. We're fine but intend to stay that way. Can't even go to the store. Will share up results for sure.

space.trucks
Kane's big solo from the Planetoid scene in ALIEN: THE MUSICAL. Landed 43 of the recasts to paint at less than $1/head. Nice big stash of recast 5" equipment came with it for my vintage guys. Stoked and having fun inventing shades of foil suits using light interference metallic acrylics. 2lb block of plasticine incoming, with the intent of sculpting a wedge of terrain for him to be stuck into in a manner which would allow him to be removed, "played with" & then replaced. The backing painting then gets a shadowbox constructed around it so it can be displayed like a painting. Two more moonscapes like it in progress including for use as a big "backing card" for sets of painted spacemen. Also making smaller versions using cigar boxes (for starters) to house individual figures.
K-9
Nice, I like the results of the metallic painted spacemen. I'm looking forward to see your completed diorama and moonscapes.

space.trucks
Pyramid update. No spaceman in this shot but I found two LP Toys type checker rockets which seem to fit the bill. One is the wrecked ship of the astronaut, the other his rescuers burning up overhead.
space.trucks
Moon Box, unfinished. Final look will have smaller space figures and a vehicle of some sort. Still working on the terrain.

Too bad they never did the Geiger Counter dude @ five inches. I’m really enjoying this thread, and the toy-based altered photos are a brilliant idea! I’ve dabbled in something a bit similar, but more based on the old children’s books that used toys in modeled landscapes. I love the idea of using the photos as a base for mixed media, and also your use of painting both before and after taking the picture. Good stuff! Having figures like this in different scales opens up some cool opportunities to use forced perspective...

Having figures like this in different scales opens up some cool opportunities to use forced perspective... Thank you! Here's current direction using 4x4x2 inch craft/hobby boxes. Surface is first worked with Crackle Paste, Clear Granular Gel, Glass Bead Gel and various iridescent acrylic colors. "Sky" is light reflective ground-up Micaceous Iron Oxide in a black acrylic gel. Figures chosen for reduced scale. Piece is unfinished, I need to sculpt the terrain over the tree base and the astronauts may be switched for smaller ones to help the dinosaur look bigger. Hangar hook would go on the back but I also worked the surface on the bottom so it can sit evenly on a shelf or tabletop. I also want the toy pieces placed in a manner which allows the owner to remove them for other adventures. Right now they are pasted down with sticky putty, will likely use a light gauge wire fed through holes when the work is finalized. Got eight of these underway, one other prehistoric, one a city and the rest planetoid settings. All the toy pieces are either of current manufacture, slightly damaged or things I have multiples of. No vintage space toys are harmed in the creation of my artworks!
