Googie
Ok figured it out! Likely the same mechanism for "Harry". So how does the bot know when to laugh and when to shut up? The motor of the bot is connected as such: one wire is grounded to the housing the other goes to the switch, But there is a "hidden" switch a simple flap of bent metal attached to the plastic peg. See pics. As the gears turn, and he enters laugh mode, a metal slide panel lifts off the metal flap and the flap then makes contact with the metal housing completing the circuit to the motor speaker and he laughs. When he enters Bump N' Go mode the metal panel lowers pressing the metal flap off the housing shutting off power to the laugh motor, and thus he SHUTS UP and just rolls. I still have some work to do but I think I will be able to fix him.
