Ninoi, very interesting piece, obviously high quality, and probably pricey when it debuted. All the pieces being metal, and hand painted, additionally, the special wood case and board. Do you have any idea who the figures represent, or are they all simply inspirational space race iconographic images?

Tinplate, as for the meaning of the pieces, we can say with certainty:

 

Pawns are cosmonauts
Rook - Kremlin tower with a star
Knight - a rocket
The Queen - Venus (the ancient Roman goddess)
The King is Mars (the ancient Roman god). Pay attention to his sword!)

 

Bishop is probably a scientist from the rocket industry.

 

Besides the figures, I like the surface design of the board, in my opinion it's so beautiful!
