A number of works by Frank R. Paul are included in this thread, he was the most prolific illustrator in the 1910's - 1930's, almost all for Hugo Gernsback titles. Here's one from Wonder Stories, March, 1931. Inspiration for Dr. Who's Daleks? Could this be the first meeting between Dr. Who and a Dalek...
