Break Action Pop Pistol

I came across this ad from an undated Juni Hardware Christmas catalog:

Judging by the other toys pictured in the catalog, I'd estimate it being from the early to mid 1930s. In any event, does anyone else think this piece looks like a ray gun? If so, anyone have it? Manufacturer? I wish the image was of better quality.

It looks like a ray gun to me Joe but I'd see a ray gun in an ink blot. Don't recognize it but it seems to have design elements from a couple of different guns.

I believe this is the same break action pop pistol, spotted in a 1930 Butler Brothers Christmas catalog:

It's beginning to look less and less like a space gun to me.
