Dany
Very confusing dates, for this Dux Astronaut different publication dates, - see detail below - the question is, in which country was it first for sale???? Volker
Hello , here is the original Patent. The Patent-paper was given to the patent-Office in 1959. And I think the patent OK was offical in 1965 - but I don,t know is this real ? they need 6 years for checking the papers ? volker
robobob
I agree Dirk, the "newspaper" article is definitely talking about a FUTURE 1964, not a PRESENT day one... So, reading Danys' information, the timeline runs : Germany - pat applied for 02/02/1959 United States - pat applied for 01/18/1960 United Kingdom - pat applied for 01/26/1960 I'm not sure why the time lag for publication would be so great...But it would make sense that Dux was for sale in the German market first, right ? I was also wondering .... I assumed the original instructions, like Dirks, were in German, and I assumed the toy would have been released in the U.S. and the U.K. with English instructions... So John, is your Dux Astroman a French version ?
robothut
I think the time line for 1960 for this toy would be right and the article was refering to 1964 as the future. Seems like the Alphadrome Time line should be changed to 1960 unless some one can prove the toy was produced and sold in 1959. Hard to say where my Dux came from or any of the others out there in collections as robots have been globe trotters for many years now. There is a little boys name written on my box in english and childs hand writing so I would guess that it was from a a english speaking and writing country. Seems odd that the robot would be sold woth no english instructions in the USA but who knows.
gernot
Here is another evidence. Many print sheets in germany have on the bottom or on the lastpage a print or revision date, here you find it on page 4 of the instruction sheet. 11-59 This means the print or revision sheet of this instruction sheet was made in November 59. I suppose that the production has been scheduled to hit probably the christmas market in 1959
Robotnut
John, your Astroman could have came from Canada. I know a guy in Ottawa who got his for his 9th birthday in 1963. It was purchased at Eatons and it also had french instruction...
Volker
I had the Info that Mr. LOTHAR STANETZKI was the creator of the dux-Astroman. but he had not enough money to start the produce.- So he was in search for a company with a Toy Background - Dux - Dux made in this Time many toys ( Cars ) in plastic. So I think the Idea and a prototyp was one or two years before 1959 ready . volker
