Daiya Space Conqueror - Arm Lifting Mechanism

RoboCopy

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need help.

Just got a blue Daiya Space Conqueror supposedly in "full working order" but unfortunately he doesn't lift his arms.

Anybody ever open up any of these robots?

Thanks!

Ok, this is not a perfect solution, the best way is to take it apart and adjust the clutch mech so it is tight, but the quick fix is to drop in some super glue to the joint, Let it set, then break the bond by forcing the arm. This leaves a coating of super glue that gives enough frictiion to lift the arm,

Basically the clutch mech works by friction but has gone loose or shiney.

Opening the robot is very easy if this is a bit to crude a fix.

Hope that helps.

cheers Chilli

I use the same technique on the ball joints of loose motorcycle mirrors.

just trying to remember as I have done it twice before. I seem to
think the clutch mech is on the arm side of the robot. Therefor you take
the out side arm off, you have to undo the tabs, it is possible to get
at the higher ones that are near the body.

Then there is a
clutch system that I think has a rubber inbetween 2 metal discs. When
new there is enough friction to move the arm, it is not attached solid
in one piece or something obstructing the arm would have wrecked the
robot.

I ran some super glue into this clutch mech which then
makes it possible for the arm to move, you could keep it like this but
it has made it connected direct to the motor. What I did was first to
glue it, wait until good bond then pull the arm down to break the bond
but the residue glue gives enough friction to lift the arm.

Hope this helps,

cheers

Thanks chilli

There is obviously something missing inside the robot as no mechanism attached to the shaft that connects the arms.

Anybody have a photo of the inside?

Interesting photo, could the part that connects to the shaft have fallen inside, perhaps removing that piece of orange board might reveal something.

Yes in the 4 picture group shot lower right corner you can see the linkage that connects to the U shaped bend in the arm axle. Robocopy your arm axle needs to be down inside the gear box area instead of sticking up, the linkage must be inside still I am shure it has a hole that is slotted in the end that should connect to the arm U shaped axle. Looks like you have to remove the gear box from the back part of the body to see the linkage and fix the problem. I am sure some kid just twisted the arms down back when the toy was new and spread the slot in the linkage arm open.
