Racerxc70
"Ladies and gentlemen watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat." I received this little gem today, it was not working and not sparking, and now well look for yourself, I glued a section of medium grit Emory cloth over the worn out section and replaced the flint with a larger piece it makes a lot of sparks now. Fineas J. Whoopie
Nice job Racerx70!! I have never seen the inside of this toy. Thanks so much for posting! What kind of flint did you use and where did you get it? My understanding is that a regular zippo lighter type flint isn't soft enough to work in sparking toys and you need to find a softer flint. If you used a standard lighter style flint perhaps the sandpaper is the key to the nice sparking you are getting?
Racerxc70
Thanks Mr.Whoopie! I bought the flint which are "Steel fire starters" online from Amazon, they are 3/20 by 2 inch and I used needle nosed pliers to cut them to the right length. I had to drill the set hole larger and use loctite (the blue bottle) to hold it in place, and yes it does spark like crazy, the medium grade Emory cloth most likely did the trick.
