chilli
Received this today, nearly did not buy it but it was very cheap. Afterwards I thought, hmm, I will be just throwing that out when it arrives, a fool and his money, well, $10. Anyhow I like tinkering but thought this was a dead loss. Opened her up, applied the magic squirty juice and had my tea. Took a bit of tugging and pulling of gears but within 10 mins was taking the video. Fantastic action, got a love a toy like that. It is missing a couple of wavey springs from the top and a plastic radar but they will turn up on something. Result, a Space Patrol x-11 never seen one before I googled this. Robotopia
Very nice! It's always a good feeling to save something from the garbage bin. And you got a cool toy for your efforts.

chilli
Thanks, even better as the gears were rusted up solid. But the motors never seem to die. It does look like it has seen a few battles. The wheel arrangement is worth a look at, 2 red plastic tapered rollers , one rear wheel drives and a sideway wheel then takes over to give a neat sideways turn. I was impressed with the fact the blue dome actually rises out of the body, I didnt expect to get that working again as the drive shafts were solid, but hey, the wonders of WD40 when nothing else works. cheers Chilli

Racerxc70
Great work Chili, You can find replacements for the "spring"antenna at Eighmy Hardware / Ace Hardware, but not the colored plastic tips. Oop's Sorry Chili I just realized that you are in the UK, check your local hardware store for those springs.

chilli
`Thanks for the info, trouble is in the U.K. that everone has forgotten how to fix things. Trying to get something as simple as a long spring is near impossible and the "local hardware store" long gone. Rant about the "modern world" over!!! cheers Chilli
Fineas J. Whoopie
Good job! I don't remember seeing those tapered conical wheels before. I wonder what purpose that design serves?
chilli
I think the idea is it rolls onto one or the other as they are hindged in the middle. As they roll the middle sideways wheel catches the ground and does a very sharp turn. How on earth a Japanese fella came up with that for an idea amazes me, a wonderfully wierd concept. cheers Chilli
Ultrarobotman
Have not been on in a while and just read the whole thing now. Very cool project, Chilli and very cheap too. That is always the best when it takes so little to get them going again. Congrats !!
