Tinman
This pic was taken from a Reliable Plastics toy catalog dated 1955; Reliable was a Canadian company. I'm guessing this is a later version of the toy that had propellers vice classic pinwheels; if so, the pinwheel version could pre-date 1955. Pinwheel version from my collection:
Tinman
This propeller version sold at auction in April 2013; unfortunately, my examples are missing the bicycle clip:
Morbius
I want to see this as your hood ornament at Botstock! Cool piece.
Tinman
I would Mike but mine are missing the clip, darn it! I'm currently working on a display stand for my group of three so I can display them in a case, I'll post pics when I get it finished.
Joe K.
Bill - This 1953 Reliable Plastic Toys Catalog sheds new light on your bicycle clips collection: Note that the catalog description says "Realistic space man mounted on a stick as a pinwheel." The Space Ranger (above) never came with bicycle clips. It came with a simple stick. It was the Space Cadet (below) that came with a bicycle clip: Finally, the Bicycle Ornament Clips (below) included a Space Man version. They were all available at the same time, 1953, unless an earlier catalog comes along that shows the contrary. The entire catalog can be found here: https://www.historymuseum.ca/canadaplay/media/pdf/8207-551-RED-11802-IMG2009-0442-0039-Dp1.pdf There are other space toys in this catalog that I'll add to the Timeline, shortly. (Sorry I missed your earlier post, Brian. Better late than never, eh?)

Golddalek
never knew they made these....I suppose influenced by automobile hood ornaments of the day? With these, Kids could have their own versions.
