"Bing" the Robot Sculpture is the latest in sculptor Bruce Gray's series of robot sculptures. He stands 6' 9" tall and is constructed from found objects like an optometrist's phoropter, a drill press, various gauges, valves, train track parts, and 4 motorcycle shock absorbers. The head and arms are movable on this sculpture. Bing will be making his television debut on the TV show "King of the Nerds." Bing gets his name from the nameplate on the carburator salvaged from a crashed BMW motorcycle. Bruce states that "This was a challenging sculpture to make because I was constantly faced with the issue of attaching dissimilar metals like steel and aluminum which can't be welded together. This required making a lot of brackets and doing a lot of tap and die work to make my own threads for these connections." "Bing is armed with a 50 caliber machine gun, pulse laser cannon, and projectile plasma cutting. He also has an emergency cut off switch if he gets a little rowdy after too many WD 40's."
