dratomic
I was doing some digging and came across this old Billboard Magazine ad from January 8, 1949, for the Tomi Gun made by Shawnee Manufacturing. This is the flashlight version known as the Electro Klik. Here's a link to the magazine:http://books.google.com/books?id=_BYEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PT70&dq=Tomi+toy&hl=en&sa=X&ei=7XhSUqaQOob89gTq3oH4Aw&ved=0CE0Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=Tomi%20toy&f=false If it doesn't take you right to the ad, scroll down to the bottom of page 71. And here's a link to one of the various discussions we've had about the gun:
Joe K.
. JANUARY 8, 1949 Heavy plastic construction with plenty of harm- less play value. A small electric bulb flashed on and off as the trigger is pressed. Gives the ap- pearance of gun firing. At the same time, a loud clicking noise is made each time the trigger is pressed. Attractively Individually Boxed .
Brian..
Thanks, Brian. In addition the magazine is a wonderful read for us coin-op junkies: Rockolas, Wurlitzers, Seeburgs..
Electric Robot and Son
Nice find Brian. Interesting that it is not advertised as a space gun. The 1949 date makes it one of the earlier plastic space guns.
Alessandro
Interesting that it is not advertised as a space gun. Well, if you look closely at the details you realize that it is not a space gun at all. Just an electric-gun. But we consider ray guns a lot of non-space guns!
