Hong Kong Moon rocket

Well the Hong Kong Moon rocket which is a plastic version of the Masuya Moon rocket arrived today. Thank you to both Martijn and Brian for pointing the auction out to me because I would have definitely missed it otherwise.

The rocket itself is only 10.5 inches tall (27cm), which makes it smaller than the tin moon rockets I have. The rockets construction is a little slapdash with obvious glue lines on just about all the pieces but the internal mechanism that lifts the rocket and drops the ladder appears to be the same as in the tin version. While everything springs open as expected it doesn't work properly when rolled on the ground. It looks like the lifting spring is too weak to raise the rocket any further than halfway. This could be a design flaw or possibly just age.

The box the rocket came in has significant water damage. The colours on the box have run and the box has lost a significant piece out of one panel. The box is all one piece and you remove the rocket from the box by opening the side panel which has the instructions on.

These photos are of the rocket from various angles

Here is the box. The graphics on the triangular sides and the base are all lifted from the side panels of the Masuya box which you can see in the second picture)

As to the size this photo shows a good comparison

Nice rocket, we don't see too many white space toys it's a nice change. Does the astronaut leave his ship and wander down to earth?

The way the ladder sticks out I don't think he wanders down it. I'd suggest he uses the "pirate walking the plank" method of descent. He is however prepared for an emergency because behind his right shoulder you can see he brought his own lifepod rocket. However it's size means he'll be riding it on the outside of it. :scratchhead:
