robothut
Here is recent patent for a Passive walking robot also refered to Ramp walker and Gravity walking toys. There are patents that go back over 100 years for these types of toys the most famous one being the Wilson walking toy of 1936. But this one is aimed at a robot toy being the end result so thought it should be here. Alot of the patent tex is in japanese but not all, and the drawings nere the end of the PDF file tell the real story anyway. Here is link for the files, the patent files are to large to attach. http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detailPdf.jsf?ia=JP2002013744&docIdPdf=090063618013387b&name=(WO2003055566)WALKING TOY&woNum=WO2003055566&prevRecNum=1&nextRecNum=2&recNum=1&queryString=&office=&sortOption=&prevFilter=&maxRec=
robothut
US2140275.pdfThe 1936 patent for a ramp walking toy may be the first. The text of the patent says the body could be anything so the penguin shown does not rule out a robot. The thing the patent does explain is the shape of the feet and how it makes the toy walk.
