ANZinSpace
Saw this item on EBAY and just had to get it. Basically it's the same thing as the Combex Orbitoy where a gyroscope spins around the outside of two tin disks. Where this one is different is that the gyroscope lights up but has no batteries because the battery is housed in the spacer that keep the two tin disks apart. This is the graphics on both sides and the gyroscope. Here's the side view which shows where the D Cell battery is housed. It's basically a screw together torch housing. And this what it looks like with the light on I was also lucky in that it came with the box You can find a video of the toy in action (done one handed - ta da) here - ME761 video
Electric Robot and Son
That is a pretty cool toy. Great litho. I don't think I have seen it before. Does the gyro also cause the saucer to rotate?
ANZinSpace
Does the gyro also cause the saucer to rotate? No it doesn't rotate the saucer, you need to spin it between your thumb and forefinger of both hands using the red spindles on the sides. That's why the video looks a little wonky - I had to spin it with both hands, try to keep it spinning with one hand, pick up camera and shoot the video. If you've got a bit of spin on the gyro you can stop spinning the saucers and the gyro will go around and around the edge until it friction gets the better of it.
