Zoomer project

Roboto

Recommended Posts

As I have begun this Zoomer Blue version into the Xmas version I will be adding pics on what this reproduction from Planet Robot looks like inside. I have never seen what a Vintage one looks like fully inside so this may give all on how close this repro is. This has bcome a fun project for me and as time goes by more pics will be added. The Xmas Zoomer is the rarest version out there . :)

Slowly putting Zoomer together. I keep checking with ohmmeter to make sure the metal contacts from the frame works are clean from overspray paint since one side of the battery is connected as ground from the battery coil door thru the frame work. The green gel was added to the inner face and the paint I used was Gloss Enamel from Testors in Gloss Green and Red. There Red #1203 is a perfect match for the other Red parts that came as is with this Blue version. :)

Very nice job indeed!!!!

Question: how did you open the bar that connects his legs?

It looks the same connection some horikawa robot have. And I can not figure out how to open them.

(Hope you understand my question, pretty difficult for me to describe it)

Thank you. As for the bars they had washers on them and the bars/rods had machined pinched ends. It took a small fine file and carefully filed those points down. When I assembled them back the lower leg pins are a softer aluminium and I used a smaller flat plyers as I squeezed them slowly to make the ends flat. The longer bar that went thru the frame and legs are a much harder metal so after I installed the washers I cleaned the ends and added a very small drop of epoxy to the area where the points were and once dryed they are a stop point for the washers. :)

That's a lovely robot. I've always regretted not getting one of those from the factory when they were available. It's great you were able to make such a fine example after the fact. I miss Planet Robot.

Thanks. Since I started late collecting Robots just trying to locate the Red Box version was fun from Planet Robot. I spoke with them last year and they went back to the warehouse and found few other collectables along with what I was looking for. The Xmas is the hardest one to find so one had to be made to finish my collection. They are still around for sales only and perhaps once they have sold all they may just disappear.

They have updated there site for 12/11 and still have a few Robots to sell even one more Bare Metal Space Explorer that was found new in box. :)
