Introducing Booster !

This is my submission for the Boilerplate competition. 90 % Of the robot is either welded or soldered together. Other then the battery case, nothing is plastic. It stands over 18" tall and has two power sources. Plus the rocket motors smoke. I finished up tonight. The photo's are not great. I'll try in daylight tomorrow. Here goes..

Andrew Carnegie sat one Sunday morning reading the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The article was about the Lost battalion . The 77th Division had been isolated behind enemy lines. Over 500 men trapped in the Argonne Forest in October 1918 . The article reminded him of an invention He had seen years earlier at the 1893 Worlds Colombian exposition in Chicago , a man , an Iron man. Boilerplate ! The wheels started to turn . Surly advances in technology could create an iron man for search and rescue missions. Some phone calls were made and eventually a team put together from various facets of the huge US Steel Empire. Chemist, metallurgist , Engineers.

The project was hidden in the small town of Butler Pa. A perfect location where companies like Bantam motors , Pullman Standard, and US Rolling Mill could pool their technologies. After 6 months the fruits of their labor were fulfilled. The end product was the powerful and impressive Machine Man called [ BOOSTER] . A machine with an analog brain , and an unconventional power source . The machine was powered by Hydrogen peroxide . The peroxide when run through a catalytic grid expanded at a ratio of 5000 to 1. Not only did this supply the iron man with the steam needed to propel the 3 ton machine but it also provided electrical generation and last but not least. The ability of rocket powered Flight ! With over 10,000 lbs of thrust plus retro rockets in the feet, Booster can be used for remote rescues and with a HF radio, he can be used for observation . I give you BOOSTER . Here seen standing beside his Peroxide fueling station !  post-545-0-41830200-1299983553.jpgpost-545-0-01114500-1299983268.jpgpost-545-0-00845900-1299983611.jpgpost-545-0-31597800-1299983652.jpg

Well,Mark, it was worth the wait. Booster is one amazing robot and the storyline is well thought out and very feasible with existing technology and support in this timeline. The only problem I have is that the design is so intricate that I'll have to spent more time tomorrow taking in Booster's complex structure. Well done!!

Love it Mark! Great craftsmanship. What's going on inside of him? I like his 'power source' lighting and the aging of the metals. Oh, and we HAVE to to those rockets smoke!

WOW!! What an amazing robot! Just beautiful and so many awesome little details. I have to admit that I was already expecting something pretty good from you. But this is so far beyond anything I had expected. Just fantastic! ;)

Mark,

Truly amazing! I can see why it took so long. There must be more than a hundred parts, beautifully integrated into a really awesome robot that looks like it just stepped out of HG Wells' Time Machine. The incorporation of the hydrogen peroxide generator really completes the diorama. Booster is well worth the waiting.

Beautiful piece mark!! In the right light, there is something unsettling, almost spooky about him. Like is he all mechanical or is there some part inside that is human...... :o ??????

I love the little touches, great job.
