New Custom - 'glassbot'

Steve's Bots and Rays

Recommended Posts

As you know, all it takes is that one perfect item that starts a new robot creation. Such was the head piece of 'GlassBot.'

Every item that followed was found at hobby shops, the kitchen, hardware and Big Box stores. Photos don't capture the cool blue lighting effects that reflect and bounce off of each other. Starfleet is missing one of its warp cores. Sorry, couldn't resist. Thanks for looking. -Steve

Very cool and very fragile at the same time! Don't go throwing stones. ;)

Hey wait...is that a bong for the head?

Nope, no bong. It came from a kitchen store among the olive oil glassware. Same goes for his arms and legs.

I agree with everything said above and more. Very cool. I love the lighting effect. How big is it? It is hard to tell from the pictures.

Did you have to drill any holes in the glass or did work around existing openings? I amazed at how you were able to find those parts to go together. Love the internal spring "bones" x-ray feel to it.

GlassBot stands 28 inches tall from his butter dish lid feet to his dome head. I don't know if you guys care about assembly but here goes.

Glass elements attached with nuts, bolts and Marine epoxy, leftover from a cedar strip boat building project of mine. It dries clear and is permanent. Great for high stress joints.

Metal pieces include electrical box, conduit connectors and for the hands - cams with articulating metal dowels for the fingers. I love wandering the aisles of the hardware store.

Andy, I did have to drill holes for the bolts to attach his arms at the shoulders. The trick was when to stop tightening the bolt to avoid cracking the glass. -Steve

Hey Steve, the butter dishes make great bow lights too. I can't find the plasma generators anymore. Drilling holes in the glass wasn't too bad with carbon bits. This guy reminds me of Robert from XL-5 .
