robothut
So here is my third nixie clock bot. I wanted to keep all the functions of the repro chief smoky robot and still have the nixie tube clock function so I went with a single nixie tube design. The circuit is mounted up high so that the control board would clear the mechanics in side the base of the robot. I place the two control switches on the robots head as ears. One button turn on or off the led numeric placement indicators and the other sets the time. The nixie clock part runs off a universal power pac that will operate anywhere in the world, all you do is snap on differet plug prongs that come with the regulated 5 volt supply. The robots other funtions still operate on 2 D cells. I did change the light in the head in too one that flashes instead of on steady. here is a youtube video of the robot. robothut
I painted the inside of the plastic head black and added the neon light for the nixie clock eyes effect and the two switches for the nixie clock controls. Here you can see how I added a contact to the standard clicker in the bump and go drive to jus as the flasher for the light in the head.
robothut
Here you can see the chest plate with the carfully cut and drilled holes for the nixie tube and the 4 LED postion indicators. I finnished off the LED holes with brass gromets and the wraped some tubing around the edges of the hole for the tube. This time I only had to tap into the nixie clock board for the remote ear shitches and the high voltage for the neon light I added to the head. Here are the body parts being painted the new metalic blue.

Roboto
Love what you are doing with the Nixie Tubes. Chief Smoky turned out great. :)
Electric Robot and Son
John, This looks really cool finished, and the new circuit board mounting must have saved a ton of wire soldering. Another very inventive design.
