Monkeyrum
I stumbled across this site by looking for papercraft robots. I was amazed at all the work and contributors to this forum. I'm a big fan of the vintage tin toys and own a few reproductions. Just thought I'd post a few links and things that I haven't seen posted yet. These could probably be separate threads for each, but...I was recently at an art fair that featured the works of two artists. One is Mr. Hooper and the other is Anthony Pack:Anthony Pack does some really neat characters out of scrap metal and cans. I'd like to try my hand at one of these:More of his pictures can be seen at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anthonypack/Mr. Hoopers work can be seen at: http://mrhooperart.com/I was able to get one of his prints for my son. I'm hoping to make a nice frame with some rivets and an old meter in it soon. A picture of is work is at the end of this post.I also stumbled across this site today, and was amazed by all the sweet custom robots:site:http://www.lipsonrobotics.com/Sorry for the bunch of randomness. Last but not least a little bit more about myself. I have an 18 month old and am married, so that pretty much means I have to limit what I can spend on my hobbies. I'm heavy into papercrafting. I actually design and skin 3D models and then unfold them in Pepakura and then turn them into real life models. I currently want to branch out a bit and start making robots from thrift\antique\discarded junk. Here are a few of my latest builds and works:more pics and things can be found at my Deviantart site at:http://monkeyrum.deviantart.com/I know those pics are a bit outside of Tin toys, but I just wanted to provide a little background about who I am and what I've done prior. Andyman
Welcome, Monkeyrum! Nice work there. I must admit that I have mixed feelings for the Yzerman rocket though. I mean, that was the cup you know and Stevie did deserve it. But hell, that is one cool rocket! ;)
Monkeyrum
Welcome, Monkeyrum! Nice work there. I must admit that I have mixed feelings for the Yzerman rocket though. I mean, that was the cup you know and Stevie did deserve it. But hell, that is one cool rocket! ;)Well he got the cup back shortly after the picture! Because of the bottom fin I needed a quick base to hold it up and Stevie fit the bill. I'm working on 3 other versions of the rocket as well. I plan on making a mobile with the rockets, some stars, and maybe a couple planets. Thanks for the welcomes everyone!I do have one question though, does anyone know of good places to look for the old style gauges and meters that people incorporate into their customs? I know of a local store that might carry some, but what I really need to find is an old electronic grave yard somewhere near me. I have some parts coming from Ebay. Electric Robot and Son
I have bought vintage meters on ebay for some future projects. I have also got a few at the Brimfield Antique Flea Market in Massachusetts.
