Most toy space guns were designed to fit in a child's hand, and are a bit on the small side, but this gun is a beast! :o The Space Patrol Gun is 12 inches long and bulky.

It is made of plastic with a lithographed plate on each side. Made by ST/ Yanoman Toys in Japan sometime in the 60's, this is an impressive weapon, but it's also an unusual one. It's a friction driven siren gun, but not your common siren...this gun accurately replicates a European police/ambulance siren. It is described on the box as a "pah-pooh siren" , and it's loud, the whistle opening is on the top of the gun on the left of the scope sight.

It must have been a popular model, according to the box it had patents in; Japan, England, Italy, USA, Spain and Germany...I think that covers all the bases. The box is unimpressive, it's just there to hold the gun, not dazzle the eye, with it's matter-of-fact depiction of the gun.

I have one nagging question, there is a hole on the left side of the tinplate just above the internal turbine that makes the sound. The box shows a knob there, but this gun doesn't have one, was that in the design and missing or just artistic license?
