TrySlay Posted January 7 Posted January 7 A few days ago, I noticed that I have two Rotate-O-Matic Super Robots that are slightly different. On one of them, there's a "Made in Japan" label, and the hatch has no embossing, as if the "Made in Japan" inscription was forgotten in the mold of the door. I've never seen a label like that on another Horikawa robot, but I think it's original. Have you ever seen this on another robot? Also, there's a color difference in the metal between the legs. Both robots have exactly the same box. Another question: does anyone have a precise date for this robot? I’m thinking mid-1970s—does it appear in catalog pages?
K-9 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Hi TrySlay, Nice robot I have one of these too. The database lists this as a late version of the Rotate-O-Matic and the first version of the Super Robot but no date is given…. The second version of the Super Robot was on sale through 1985… SUPER ROBOT LATER VERSION - HORIKAWA - JAPAN I believe the date I’ve seen before is 1980, which would fit. The blocky plastic legs were utilized on other Horikawa and Yonezawa robots beginning in the late 1970s. The earliest of these may be the Horikawa Piston Robot dated to 1976.
robothut Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The Kentucky Fried Movie is a 1977 American independent anthology sketch black comedy film, produced by Kim Jorgensen, Larry Kostroff, and Robert K. Weiss, and directed by John Landis. So the robot is before 1977 or 1977 at the latest.
K-9 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Thanks for video and pinning down an early sighting John! The blocky plastic legs in common with the Horikawa and Yonezawa robots likely first appeared in the mid-1970s.
