MetalRobotHead Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Sold today for US$2,800, now there's a thing, old or not old, that is the question?. I think I will get out in my garage today and resurrect my tin making skills, I'm sure I've got a sheet of galvanised tin somewhere and a can of gold spray paint.
Brian.. Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Was there an auction description explaining some sort of provenance?
Brian.. Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Thanks to Gilbert for this link to the Ebay auction. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/356213716671 A zero feedback bidder pushed it up to $1000. Then two bidders took it on to $2800. Folk art? Hmmm. In England we call that shed work. As for its age, well that's anyone's guess.
K-9 Posted November 13 Posted November 13 I watched this one too and was shocked that it went that high! There was no provenance, only a money back guarantee. From the auction listing: “By the age of the original gold paint and the surface of the galvanized tin, underneath the base, we are listing this handmade Robot is from the early 20th century, circa-1930s. This was a time period where the first robots were constructed with a boxy design. Standing on a 6” by 7” dam this robot 14 ½” tall. There is wear and smudges to the gold paint, but the tin is in very good original condition and there are no restorations. We have listed this antique Folk Art Robot without a reserve. We also give a 100% Unconditional Guarantee that the high bidder will be totally satisfied with the age, quality, condition and authenticity of this unique Robot or we will return all their money. ……”
