Peter Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Hi friends... I'm starting to post the space and robot toys from my collection. Most have been stored for 25 years or so, and I've been working to wake 'em up to see the light of a new future. I feel the need to keep them - along with the other vintage toys in my collection - a collection. I'm a preservationist, and like you all, we have collectively kept many incredible and important representatives of toy history, design, and culture from becoming dust. Many are 70 years old or more. So am I. So, what's next? Usually collections are sold off. But I'm going to try to keep them together if i can find a home for them where they'll be given the care and respect they deserve for having survived this long despite terrible odds. My collection is more broad then deep. But it contains many different examples of mechanics, design, movement and art. I'd like an art or design college to take the collection as a teaching tool for students to learn about, play with, and care for. I'll ask for an "operating theater" like they have in med school for students to watch operations. Maybe have Robothut come and do some diagnostics and transplants. But that's just a fantasy. Any way, I'm glad to be here with you heroes of conservation at Alphadrome.
zebedee Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Welcome Peter, nice collection, whats the little red robot never seen one before
Hymie Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Wonderful stuff, Peter. Also some really nice box art (I love Rocket to the Moon and Bullet Skyliner). But I think you need to hang on to your collection a few more years. As a fellow member of your generation, I say toy collecting (especially space toy and robot collecting) is an elixir of youth. Thanks for posting!

I thought it would take a little longer than that to get spotted. I should have thought of an award. Maybe next time. He's homemade. I bought him online about 25 years ago from a man in Rochester . A helpful Robot of the Future, Fire Extinguishing Robot holds double extinguishers and carries an axe. Yelling, "Fire!, Fire! Evacuate the premises and I shall extinguish it!", he rolls forward and turns from side to side. The box art is, well, fantastic. He's been in some tough spots - from rescuing cats in trees and kids from fires, to battling the King of Hell himself. He sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night and I thank him for his service.

Thanks for posting! I'm death cleaning before it's done by someone more ham handed. I figure if I spent 90% of my time on inflow, I should spend 10% on outflow. Revive, Refresh, Re wild.
zebedee Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Thank you Peter, I take thats Rochester in the US and not the one here in the UK, they did a great job with it.
K-9 Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Thanks for sharing some of your collection Peter! The Space-Satellite is one of my favorites; you also have some great mono-rail toys. The Fire Extinguisher Robot is very cool as well.
