Nick Danger Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Here's a treat: l'Atomic Interplanetaire Junior, a French knock-off of the Jet Jr. by J&E Stevens. It's in the database, but I can't find any threads about it, so here we are.
Nick Danger Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 A few corrections to the database: 1. The database describes the toy as silver die cast, but mine is painted gold, like the toy's bigger brother. 2. The database describes the box as dropping the reference to, "Ailerons," but the reference is, indeed, there. It looks like the database photo has a glare that obstructs the text. The manufacturer remains a mystery, but the back of the box refers to the toy being imported by the Debrez Freres (Debrez Brothers) of Comines-Nord, which a Google search informs me is a French town near the border with Belgium.
6Stelab9 Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Beautiful gun, thanks for sharing. I think "Imp" is rather for imprimerie (printing compagny in french). I don't think it means import. It is the name of the printer of the box (which apparently is still in business since 1860). https://www.debrez.fr/
Nick Danger Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 Thanks for the correction, Stephane. I find it curious that the box has an attribution for the company that printed the box, but not the company that created the toy. You'll note that on the side of the box are the words, "Model et marque deposes," which means, "Registered model and trademark," but it doesn't specify to whom the trademark is registered. As a sidenote: I showed this to my French neighbor who commented that "l'Atomic," is misspelled; it should be, "l'Atomique." When I asked why they would spell it that way, he said, "To make it look American and cool."
Nick Danger Posted May 19 Author Posted May 19 I was able to lay my hands on a Jet Jr. with an original box (Thanks, Richard!). It's interesting to compare it against l'Atomic Interplanetaire Junior. The production quality is night and day.
