Mr. Chronicle - Robo Derby #1 Pug conversion project

Recommended Posts

More progress on my pug robot conversion! Today I finished the acrylic portion of the chest detail. Next I will fabricate a metal frame/ casing for this that will attach to the front of the body. The chest feature will be lit from behind. The front of the acrylic has been polished to a shine using Novus polish (this stuff is amazing). However, I have left the scratches from the sand paper on the backside to diffuse and scatter the light from the bulb that will be placed behind it.

I expect I will be very near to painting and assembly sometime next week.

Signs of life! An electric test of the flashing lights and the grounding tabs and mounting bracket that I made. The flashing is a result of the brass tabs being struck by the existing cams that raised and lowered the visible pistons under the clear dome in the original factory design of the pug robot. I knew that in theory this should work. But, as this is my first time designing anything electromechanical, I’m not really sure of anything until I test it. So I am pretty tickled to see these lights flashing as expected.
