Phil R
The progression of flight concept is fascinating. One common artistic interpretation in Russian and Easter European space art is a dated style that seems more pre WW2 that 1950s. This is especially true of Russian toy design and box art. As an artist I think it may be their politically repressed expression afraid to come out.
Joe K.
. I believe that orbiting space traveler is meant to be Sputnik 3 (launched on May 15, 1958), not a Mercury capsule. Welcome Ninoi. .

Ninoi4506
Thanks! there is translation of text from the box: So, nothing interest And you might also explain, why the moving satellite on the toy actually is a model of a Sputnik? The fact that in Russian "satellite" = "sputnik" . Perhaps the game makers did not have in mind a specific model of the Sputnik space program. However, even Sputnik-2 (like Sputnik-3) is similar to the satellite from this toy. it may be their politically repressed expression afraid to come out. very interesting hypothesis! P.S. Maybe someone will be interested to look video of this toy that I make for my auction:
Ninoi4506
It turns out that there was a development of the following toys in 1950s - it was called "Sputnik-3".Unfortunately, the production did not go. (Next photos of single instance from Toy Museum in Kiev/Ukraine and model of Sputnik-3)
