Marco purchased the parts for his Shigeru project from the estate of Mr. Shinji Miyazawa in early 2019, then fabricated the internal mechanisms as well as some of the missing exterior parts, with 3D printing. Looks like a lot of fabrication work went into these. From Marcos website (Vintagespacetoys.com)...

"The parts came from Shinji’s final project.. a remote controlled Giant Robot of which he made only a few ( I still have the prototypes in my collection ) with mechanism gears and motors inside the feet and a complete different custom made mechanism to drive the robot remote controlled."

A remote controlled Giant Robot would have made a brilliant robot and its a shame he didn't get to produce it. Do you have any pictures of the prototype and does the remote control work.

I believe this is what Marco is referring to. Here are a few photos and the link to Marco’s description on his website and yes his new Shigeru Laser robots look quite impressive, though unfortunately a bit out of my reach in regards to cost.

Jeremy, thanks for posting the photos. Automaton, yes the remote is functional (great design too!). The robot was driven by electric motors in the feet. See RoboDerby's link for more photos of the prototype...  it was a loss that the robot never went into production.

Thanks for that.  So these parts he purchased were leftovers from the remote control project not built from the actual original machines?

Robohunter, the way I understand  it was that these were the original Giant Robot parts (vintage stampings) which Mr. Shinji Miyazawa had set aside for his remote controlled Giant Robot project. Only a couple of prototypes were made before Mr. Miyazawa passed and then Marco ended up purchasing both the prototypes and parts. The parts were then incorporated into Marco's Shigeru Giant Laser project.

Nice to see them put to good use.
